Hand Rankings in Poker
You must know the hand rankings in poker in order to win at the game. Here are the rankings in descending order of value:
A royal flush is when you have A, K, Q, J, 10 of the same suit at hand. Suits in card games are determined by the card symbol. For instance, diamonds is a suit and having A, K, Q, J, 10 of diamonds will be a Royal Flush, the best hand in poker.
Having any five cards in a sequence that belong to the same suit of cards is a straight flush. This is the second best poker hand.
Four of a kind
As the phrase suggests simply having four cards of the same rank gives you four of a kind. For e.g. it could be J-J-J-J-6.
Having a hand with three of a kind i.e. three cards of the same rank along with a pair is full house in poker hands.
Flush is the hand which has any five cards of the same suit but in no particular order. For e.g. it could be 4-J-2-8-6.
Any five cards in a sequence which does not belong to the same suit form a straight hand. For e.g. it could have 5 of Hearts, 6 of spades, 7 of diamonds, 8 of clubs, and 9 of spades to be a straight in poker hands.
Three of a kind
Any three cards that belongs to the same rank, like 6-6-6-K-4 makes Three of a kind.
When you have two different pairs of cards in your hand you make two pairs. It could be 4-4-3-3-Q.
If you any two cards of the same rank, that makes a pair or in other one pair hand in poker. For e.g. a hand with J-2-4-4-7 has one pair of 4s.
Even if you do not make any of the poker hands mentioned above but manage to have the highest ranking card it will play to stand a chance to win. For e.g. if you have poker hand with 3-J-8-4-2, then Jack will play as the highest card.
